When you first get your Flokati rug
Give it a good shake to fluff it up. It may have become flattened in the packaging. The more you give it a good shake, the fluffier it becomes.
If your Flokati rug becomes flattened by people walking on it
Get an ordinary garden rake and gently rake the wool from the bottom up. This will get your Flokati rug looking fluffier without having to move it. You will find some of the wool getting caught in the rake which is perfectly normal. If you do this gently, you will not harm your Flokati rug.
Give your Flokati rug a shake every now and then
Take your Flokati rug outside and give it a good shake. This can remove dirt and dust which has accumulated in the wool fibers. Leave the rug outdoors in the shade for a few hours to freshen it up.
Wash your Flokati rug every couple of years
You may want to wash it every year, and this will depend on the number of people in your home and where the rug is placed. If your rug is placed somewhere where people walk and eat, you may want to wash it more often.
Washing small rugs
Wash the rug in cold or lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Don't wash your Flokati Rug in hot water or with bleach. It will destroy the natural wool fibers. If you have a small Flokati rug, you can wash it in your washing machine on a gentle cycle. Then air dry it in the shade. Keep it out of the sun.
Washing large rugs
If your Flokati rug doesn't fit in the washing machine, get a soft scrub brush, dip it in the water and mild detergent, and gently brush your Flokati rug. Then leave it in the shade to dry. Don't walk on the rug when it is wet.
Getting out stains
Blot the area with a white paper towel. Don't rub in paper towel in the rug as it may spread the stain. If this doesn't remove the stain, get a soft scrub brush and dip it in lukewarm water mixed with a mild detergent. Gently brush and scrub the stain until the stain is removed. Leave the rug to dry.
